Project Carbon - 07/02/19

For this project, our team has to create a high pitch document (HP Doc) and a general design document (GDD) for a game of our own creation. We will work through the different processes of production and eventually pitch our product to real members of the game design industry. So far we have created a basic idea and built it into what we will develop. We had a basic idea storm with Mat Warner, one of our primary lecturers for this assignment and he helped us develop the idea and get rid a lot of flaws helping us to refine our idea. At this stage in the product, we have finished creating the HP Doc but haven't changed the design to more suitable match our idea. We have also split the writing of the GDD into different sections and assigned three or four sections to each team member to help produce a better product and with more time to do so. We are now working out more details to do with the design of the game such as map layout, game mechanics and aesthetic changes. All member...

Subject Specialism - 24/01/2019

I have blocked out my level and created most of my assets. All I have left to model is some more of the intricate designs and simple assets. Once I have completed all of the modelling, I will start unwrapping my assets as I would prefer to have everything textured before animating, or at least anything that will be used in the scene. I also still have one of my characters to model. I have the character sheet made but all I need to do is to put them into 3DS Max and model the character. I have the female, Jacqueline Chen, to model and this will be more difficult as I will have to make sure areas such as the waist line and breasts are even and realistic.

Cutscene - Evaluation

Evaluation For this assignment, I had to work in a team of my peers to design and produce the intro cutscene for an imaginary game of our choosing. We worked together to come up with ideas, create pre-production and eventually a final product. Throughout the course of this assignment, we ran into a few difficulties but were able to overcome them. The first thing me and my team did was to brainstorm ideas for an intro cutscene. We started by making a list of genres and deciding which we didn ’ t agree on until we had narrowed down the options. We then decided on what we wanted to make and chose a man who is in purgatory, which we chose to design as a prison cell, and has a conversation with the ‘ Good and Bad ’ spirits on his shoulders about what he had done to help decide if he goes to heaven or hell. We then started working on the pre-production, delegating different roles among us to help speed up the process. I worked on helping to ma...

Cutscene - Journal

Week 1 27.9.18 – 01.10.18 We started to brainstorm ideas and narrowed down from a list of genres into what we wanted to do. Week 2 1.10.18 – 07.10.18 Week 3 8.10.18 – 14.10.18 We narrowed down our idea into a conversation between a prisoner in limbo and his conscience. Week 4 - 15.10.18 – 21.10.18 Week 5 - 22.10.18 – 28.10.18 The team lead has been absent for long enough that we started moving forward without him.   We changed our idea somewhat into something a little simpler since we lost a member and are a few weeks behind. Week 6 - 29.10 – 04.11 Started and finished working on the script for the scene as well as helping to gather sounds for the cut scene. Week 7 - 05.11 – 11.11 Started modelling some basic assets for one of the scenes. Week 8 - 12.11 – 18.11 The team lead hasn’t shown up for a while and we can’t contact him. Callum created a simple animatic from the storyboard he created as the team ...

Cutscene - Research

Image
Research Throughout all media industries, the use of three dimensional (3D) models has grown so prevalent that it ’ s rare to see anything without something 3D modelled. From big budget films to small adverts that show on TV, the use of 3D grows  every day. This is because 3D modelling allows a level of freedom, creativity and realism that cannot always be achieved through real life footage such as in; Fantasy, Sci-Fi or Historical features. 3D can also be used to simply enhance what is already on screen. 3D has been used in entertainment for almost a hundred years, with the first ever 3D film debuting in 1922. This film was “ The Power of Love ” and was displayed in 3D by using an early form of 3D imaging called ‘ anaglyph ’ . This is the use of two different images taken a few centimeters apart and displayed through a red and blue or red and green filter so that two images appear on screen. The viewer must then wear anaglyph glasses ...
